Clara White Mural - A partnership between FIGMENT Jax and the Clara White Mission

"DO ALL THE GOOD YOU CAN

IN ALL THE WAYS YOU CAN, IN ALL THE PLACES YOU CAN

FOR ALL THE PEOPLE YOU CAN

WHILE YOU CAN" - Clara White

About
the Mural

The 2,600 square foot mural will be located on the Broad Street wall of the Clara White Mission in historic LaVilla. The mural will pay tribute to the life and work of the mission’s founder, Ms. Eartha M.M. White, who worked tirelessly her entire life in service to her community. The mural will feature glimpses into moments of her life as well as honor the history of the LaVilla neighborhood and inspire viewers to continue her legacy by living their life in service to others.

The images will be woven together with an explanatory poem as well as quotes and sayings that Eartha White collected from her mother, Clara White. The wall will be mixed media, including parts done in mosaic, and will be executed by a team of artists born and raised in Jacksonville who got their start right across the street at LaVilla School of the Arts.

About
the Archives

The power of art to uplift communities and bring people together is all rooted in stories. It is through stories that we define our identity and share it with others. When we truly listen to each other's stories, we can reach a deeper understanding of where we comes from and how we are all connected. The video archives will contain stories from the community served by the Clara White Mission and use the platform to amplify their voices- homeless people, veterans, people suffering from unemployment. The story archive will be uploaded to YouTube and made publicly available.
